Time For A New A/C?

Spring 2026 is here in Austin, Texas and that means warmer temperatures as we approach summer weather.

If you have an older air conditioning system in your home, you might be wondering if a full HVAC system replacement makes sense for you. Many customers ask me what to do. Here’s my thoughts on this.

If you have an older heating and air conditioning system, let’s say 12 to 15 years old, you should probably prepare yourself for some major A/C repairs in the near future. These air conditioning systems will eventually break down, and need either a major repair, or replacement. Typically we see that once the major repairs start, they continue each summer. A customer will have a repair this summer, followed by another repair next summer, then the next summer, and it never seems to end.

So what should you do? We recommend that you start saving now for future repairs, or perhaps a full HVAC system replacement. In spring, you can still get really good pricing on new air conditioning and heating systems. You might be hesitant to make a purchase at this time. However, as the spring temperatures rise as we head into summer, the manufacturers will raise the prices of the air conditioner right along with our outdoor temperatures. Unfortunately, I cannot control what happens with the equipment prices. Therefore, I would rather our customers take advantage of the lower prices now than wait until the hot summer months to replace their air conditioning system. It just makes good fiscal sense to do it now.

If a lower upfront price still is not enough to get you to pull the trigger on a new HVAC system, I have something else to share with you. A newer system will be much more energy efficient than your existing old A/C. That equates to lower electricity bills each month. A new heating and air conditioning system will start to pay you back at the very first moment it’s installed. Plus, you have piece of mind that you have a new air conditioning system that is covered by a fantastic warranty. No more expensive repairs in the middle of the summer.

So there you have it folks. Hope this information helps you make an educated decision in regards to your indoor comfort during the hot summer months.
