Spring 2026 is here in Austin, Texas and that means warmer temperatures as we approach summer weather.

If you have an older air conditioning system in your home, you might be wondering if a full HVAC system replacement makes sense for you. Many customers ask me what to do. Here’s my thoughts on this.

If you have an older heating and air conditioning system, let’s say 12 to 15 years old, you should probably prepare yourself for some major A/C repairs in the near future. These air conditioning systems will eventually break down, and need either a major repair, or replacement. Typically we see that once the major repairs start, they continue each summer. A customer will have a repair this summer, followed by another repair next summer, then the next summer, and it never seems to end.

So what should you do? We recommend that you start saving now for future repairs, or perhaps a full HVAC system replacement. In spring, you can still get really good pricing on new air conditioning and heating systems. You might be hesitant to make a purchase at this time. However, as the spring temperatures rise as we head into summer, the manufacturers will raise the prices of the air conditioner right along with our outdoor temperatures. Unfortunately, I cannot control what happens with the equipment prices. Therefore, I would rather our customers take advantage of the lower prices now than wait until the hot summer months to replace their air conditioning system. It just makes good fiscal sense to do it now.

If a lower upfront price still is not enough to get you to pull the trigger on a new HVAC system, I have something else to share with you. A newer system will be much more energy efficient than your existing old A/C. That equates to lower electricity bills each month. A new heating and air conditioning system will start to pay you back at the very first moment it’s installed. Plus, you have piece of mind that you have a new air conditioning system that is covered by a fantastic warranty. No more expensive repairs in the middle of the summer.

So there you have it folks. Hope this information helps you make an educated decision in regards to your indoor comfort during the hot summer months.

Do you have questions? Call me anytime.

We get a number of calls each week from customers that state their A/C is running constantly and struggling to keep up with the triple digit heat. With no end to the extreme temperatures in sight, there are a few things that you can do to help your home’s air conditioner work more efficiently in the Texas heat.

Replace your A/C filter every 30 days.

Keep your outdoor unit very clean by having it washed by an experienced technician. It will be able to function at peak efficiency when it’s clean. Grass clippings, dirt, and other debris can greatly affect its ability to keep your home cool.

Have a service technician check things such as capacitors, refrigerant levels, fan motors, and contactors to determine if all of them are operating at the manufactures specified levels.

Keep grass, shrubs, tress, vines, and other foliage trimmed away from the outdoor unit. Leave at least 36 inches of clear area around the entire outdoor condensing unit. This allows the unit to breathe and not overheat. Overheating will cause premature failure of the unit. It will also cause the air conditioning system to cool less efficiently, run longer than needed, and thus drive up the cost of your electric bill.

Lastly, we notice that many HVAC systems are not properly sized to keep your home cool when the outdoor temperatures are above 100 degrees. We can help with this problem. We have the knowledge and tools to design a system to keep your home cool during the extreme Texas summer. Give us a call for a free consultation.

We have noticed that over the past year that the quality of Honeywell products have declined tremendously. This seems to have coincided with their rebranding of their brand to Resideo Technologies. Honeywell had always been known as a leader in quality and innovation when it came to HVAC products. Over the years a number of manufacturers have entered the HVAC controls marketplace. Among those are Nest, and Ecobee. Both of these appear to be reliable products. Another name in the thermostat world is White Rogers (part of Emerson Climate Technologies). They have been making thermostats and circuit boards for a very long time. We have recently installed some of the Sensi thermostats that are developed by Emerson / White Rogers. The Sensi thermostats appear to be a very solid product with a number of features that customers enjoy such as WiFi, dehumidification, auto-changeover, and touch screen interfaces. They also have a user friendly smart phone app.

For the time being we are going to suspend the installation of Honeywell products for our customers until Resideo Technologies can prove that they are able to produce a high quality product once again. Therefore, we will install Emerson, Nest, and Ecobee for our customers for the foreseeable future. We want your HVAC system to be reliable, and we know that we can only give you a high level of reliability by using only the best, most reliable products.

Thanks!!!

Ready for a vacation?

Your home should be too! Careful planning can not only help protect your home and your belongings while you travel, but also provide your family with some energy savings to spend on souvenirs! Follow these five simple tips to prepare your home for your absence.

Whether it’s a weekend road-trip or stay at the lake house, remember to follow some of these energy-saving tips to avoid unnecessary expenses while you’re away.

1. Turn off the lights.

If you decide to keep any of your lights on as a security measure, invest in an automatic timer. It can be programmed to turn on your lights during late evening and early morning hours while preventing wasted energy during the day.

2. Turn down your air conditioner.

While it’s important to keep the air circulating in your home while you’re gone, you can drastically cut down on energy usage by turning your thermostat up to 85 degrees. If you have a programmable thermostat, simply use the “vacation” feature to maintain safe and efficient indoor temperatures while you’re gone.

3. Unplug appliances and electronics.

Even when they’re turned off, anything that’s plugged into the wall can continue to consume energy. By unplugging your devices or using a smart power strip, you’ll avoid wasting standby power. Don’t forget to unplug your washer and dryer, too.

4. Adjust your water heater(s).

Turn your water heater down to “low” or to “vacation” mode. If your pool also uses a heater, consider purchasing a pool cover that will help minimize heat loss so that you can avoid the cost to reheat it.

5. Refrigerator:

If you’ll only be gone a few days, turn your refrigerator’s thermostat up a few degrees. If you’ll be gone more than two weeks, clean and empty the refrigerator, prop the door open, and unplug the unit.

Whether it’s a weekend road-trip or stay at the lake house, remember to follow some of these energy-saving tips to avoid unnecessary expenses while you’re away.

HVAC Air Purifiers

Whole-house air purifiers are becoming an increasingly popular component of the heating and cooling systems in many homes. Wondering why? Check out the benefits below!

Fewer allergy symptoms.

Unlike standard air filters, whole-house air purifiers can catch potential allergens down to .3 microns in size, removing up to 99.97 percent of particles from the filtered air.

Compact size.

Whole-house air purifiers are conveniently installed within the HVAC air handler system, eliminating the unsightly portable units in different rooms throughout the house.

Cost-effectiveness.

Whole-house air purifiers save you the expense of having to purchase both air purifier filters and HVAC filters.

Less Noise.

Because whole-house air purifiers eliminate the noise associated with some portable units, they are able to create a more comfortable and healthier indoor environment with little noise.

Low Maintenance.

While standard HVAC filters must be changed at least every 90 days, whole-house air purifiers last 3 to 5 years with little to no maintenance. And these units can be incorporated into your existing HVAC system.

Keeping your eyes and ears open for warning signs can prevent that scenario where the system quits in the middle of night or for businesses, during work hours on the coldest day of the year,” said Michael Flag, president of AirPro Inc., a leading HVAC serving company in New York. “Simple maintenance during the year will prevent this problem and keep your home or business warm during the cold winter weather

Contact Naylor Services, LLC to a schedule a no-cost analysis of the benefits of whole-house air filtration.
